General Questions

Learn the basics about Vocoding

What is Vocoding?

Vocoding is a private desktop AI workspace for real business work. Each client, project or workflow can keep its own context, files, rules, agents, skills, optimizers and model choice.

I'm not a developer. Is Vocoding for me?

Yes. Vocoding ships with a growing catalog of pre-designed agents covering marketing, business, creative, sales, ops, and more — but the real power is that you can customize any agent for YOUR way of working, or create new ones by voice. Same with workspaces, profiles, and skills: Vocoding learns your context (CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules, project files) and adapts. If you can talk, you can use it. Most users never write a prompt template again.

How is Vocoding different from ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a chat surface. Vocoding is the workspace layer around your work: it keeps project context stable, routes tasks to the right workspace resources and can use local, cloud or account runtimes depending on the task.

Is this just a fancy transcription tool?

Transcription is one mode (Option + T). The real power is Optimize mode (Option + O) where your voice goes through a specialist agent and comes out as professional output. Think: voice → expert brain → polished result.

What platforms does Vocoding support?

Vocoding is available for macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows. It's a desktop application that works with any app that accepts text input.

Who created Vocoding?

Vocoding was created by Carlos Rodera and is built independently with feedback from real users.

What makes Vocoding unique?

Vocoding combines desktop capture, workspace context, scoped agents, skills, optimizers, local/cloud/account runtime choice and one workspace per project or client. The goal is to stop rebuilding the same context in every AI tool.

Can I try Vocoding before buying?

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If Vocoding doesn't transform your workflow, contact us for a full refund. No questions asked.

What does "perpetual license" really mean?

Technical Questions

System requirements and setup

What are the system requirements?

macOS 10.15+ (Intel or Apple Silicon) or Windows 10+. 8GB RAM recommended. 500MB disk space for the app, plus optional space for local AI models. See our full compatibility details for more information.

Do I need to install anything else?

For local AI, Vocoding uses Ollama, a free and open-source tool that runs AI models on your machine. Just download it from ollama.com (takes less than a minute). If you only want cloud models, Ollama is optional.

Which AI models can I use?

You have full control. Run local models (via Ollama) for privacy, or connect to OpenRouter for top-tier models like Claude 3.5 Sonnet, GPT-4, and Gemini. Custom presets let you switch instantly.

Can I use this with my current setup?

Absolutely. Vocoding works with any app that accepts text input — LinkedIn, Notion, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Terminal, Slack. It simulates native typing, so it integrates everywhere.

What is Whisper and how does it work?

Whisper is OpenAI's speech recognition model that runs locally on your device by default. You can also choose cloud transcription via Groq for faster processing. It supports multiple languages and provides accurate, real-time transcription. Learn more in our how Vocoding works page.

How does the auto-paste feature work?

After processing, Vocoding automatically copies the result to your clipboard and can optionally paste it into your active application. It uses system-level commands, so it works with any app.

What is Ollama?

Ollama is a free, open-source tool that lets you run AI models locally on your computer. Vocoding integrates with Ollama for completely offline, private AI processing. Read our Ollama getting started guide for setup instructions.

Does Vocoding work offline?

Yes, with local AI via Ollama. Transcription (Whisper) always works offline. AI optimization works offline if you use local models through Ollama. Check compatibility requirements for your device.

Privacy Questions

Data security and privacy

Is my voice data private?

By default, yes. Voice transcription via Whisper runs locally on your device. You can optionally use cloud transcription (Groq) with your own API key. Audio files are deleted immediately after transcription. Learn more about our privacy-first architecture and read our privacy policy.

Does Vocoding send my code to the cloud?

Only if you choose to. For AI optimization, you decide: use local Ollama (completely offline) or cloud APIs with your own keys. Local processing means your code never leaves your machine. See our privacy-first page for details.

What data does Vocoding collect?

Vocoding is local-first. We don't collect your prompts, code, or transcriptions. The only data we handle is for license validation and optional analytics (which can be disabled).

Where is my data stored?

All your data (prompts, settings, agent configurations) is stored locally on your machine. Nothing is sent to our servers.

What is BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)?

BYOK means you use your own API keys for cloud AI services. Your keys stay on your machine, and billing goes directly to your account with the AI provider.

Can I use Vocoding in a corporate environment?

Yes. The local-first architecture makes Vocoding suitable for environments with strict data policies. All processing can happen on your machine.

How does Vocoding approach GDPR and privacy requirements?

Vocoding is local-first and keeps product data on your device by default. Read our privacy policy for full details about how personal data is handled.

Feature Questions

Learn about Vocoding features

What are the three main modes?

Transcribe (Option + T): Voice to text, nothing more. Chat (Option + C): Voice conversation with agents. Optimize (Option + O): Voice to expert output through specialized agents.

What are AI Agents in Vocoding?

Agents are specialized AI personas trained for specific tasks. Each agent has expertise in a domain (React development, LinkedIn posts, pitch decks, etc.) and produces output optimized for that use case. Explore all the agent catalog.

How many agents are included?

a growing catalog of pre-built agents (and growing) across 5 categories: Development (50+), Marketing (40+), Business (30+), Creative (25+), and AI & Meta (20+). Plus, create your own custom agents.

Can I create my own agents?

Yes. Vocoding includes an agent builder. Describe what you need in plain language, and Vocoding creates a custom agent. No code required.

What are System Profiles?

Profiles define the output style and personality. Examples: Implementation (detailed code), Architecture (high-level design), Ghost Writer (polished content), Debug (troubleshooting focus).

How does context detection work?

Vocoding automatically detects your project context: package.json, Cargo.toml, git branch, .cursorrules, CLAUDE.md, and more. This context is injected into your prompts automatically. See how Vocoding works for the full technical flow.

What is the Prompt Library?

A place to save and organize your best prompts. Reuse templates across projects, share with your team, and build a personal collection of optimized prompts.

Does Vocoding support multiple languages?

Yes. Whisper supports transcription in 99+ languages. AI agents can also generate content in multiple languages.

Comparison Questions

How Vocoding compares to alternatives

How is Vocoding different from dictation software?

Dictation software just transcribes. Vocoding transforms your voice through specialized AI agents. The output is optimized, structured, and ready to use.

Vocoding vs ChatGPT Voice?

ChatGPT Voice is one generalist model. Vocoding has specialized agents. ChatGPT doesn't know your project context. Vocoding auto-detects it. ChatGPT is cloud-only. Vocoding is local-first. See our detailed ChatGPT Voice comparison.

Vocoding vs Whisper directly?

Whisper is just transcription. Vocoding uses Whisper for transcription, then adds specialized AI agents, context awareness, profiles, and auto-paste. It's a complete workflow. See our SuperWhisper comparison and MacWhisper comparison.

Vocoding vs Cursor/Claude Code?

Vocoding complements these tools. It optimizes your voice prompts before sending them to Cursor or Claude Code. Use Vocoding to craft better instructions, then let your AI coding tool execute. See our Wispr comparison for more alternatives.

Why not just use voice typing in my OS?

OS voice typing is basic transcription. Vocoding adds AI optimization, specialized agents, context awareness, and auto-formatting. The output is ready to use, not raw transcription.

Is Vocoding better than typing?

For most people, speaking is 3-5x faster than typing. Plus, with agent optimization, your spoken ideas become polished output. It's faster AND better quality.
